Newcastle, beaten 2-1 by Watford yesterday, entertain Jose Mourinho’s side on Wednesday night.

And injury-hit head coach Bruce and his staff will assess captain Jamaal Lascelles after he took a knock at Vicarage Road on his return from an ankle injury.

“Towards the end (he was struggling),” said Bruce, who recalled Allan Saint-Maximin against Watford after resting the winger against Manchester City in midweek. “He took a knock on it – that’s all. We’ll see how he is. We saw (Miguel) Almiron and Allan. We’ll see what we’ve got for Wednesday, and we’ll go again after that.”

The Watford defeat all but ended United’s hopes of a top-10 finish. The club is 13th in the Premier League, and six points behind 10th-placed Tottenham, with three games left to play.
