Newcastle United 'warrior' set to start v Hull City despite 'huge cut' - Matthias Jaissle loves it
Sven Botman has been labelled a “warrior” by Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Sven Botman is set to keep his place in Newcastle United’s starting XI for the Premier League clash against Hull City on Saturday.
Ahead of the game at St James’ Park, Magpies’ head coach Matthias Jaissle was quizzed about the Dutchman’s recent performances and whether he has fully overcome his recent injury problems.
Botman joined Newcastle from Lille for £35million in 2022 and enjoyed an excellent debut season, forming part of the defence that was joint-best in the Premier League alongside champions Manchester City.

But in the following campaign, the 26-year-old sustained two serious knee injuries and has suffered various setbacks since then.
Botman has stayed fit at the beginning of the season, playing every minute of the club’s opening six matches so far, but was among the players who endured a tough night in the 4-1 defeat to Leeds United on Monday.
Matthias Jaissle - ‘Sven Botman is a ‘warrior’
Jaissle, however, has come to his defence, labelling the former Ajax defender as a “warrior”.
“I'm fully, fully convinced about Sven's performances and that a player also has some downs at the moment or in a moment, in a season,” Jaissle said. “That's totally normal. We're all human beings.”
“Sven is a brilliant player with huge potential. His previous injuries don’t affect him at all. He's fit, and he even fights for his team when he has a huge cut on the knee. It doesn't kill him. He's a warrior. That's what I appreciate a lot with him.
“He had a huge cut on the knee, but he was just continuing going. I love that.”
