Obafemi Martins, Peter Lovenkrands and others: This is where the players in Alan Shearer's first Newcastle United starting XI are now

It’s 12 years this weekend since Alan Shearer first took charge of Newcastle United during his infamous caretaker spell.

The Magpies legend and record goalscorer was drafted in for the final eight games of the 2008/09 season in a bid to try and save the club from relegation.

Ultimately, Shearer cruelly fell short in his challenge, which started with a 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea on April 4, 2009.

Here, we take a look at Shearer’s first starting XI as United boss – and find out what they’re up to now.
