Abraham hasn’t started a game for the Blues since February, although has suffered with an ankle during that time.

The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and while speculation suggests his price tag is £40million, interested clubs are confident they can strike a deal for less.

Murphy, 26, is enjoying the best spell of his Magpies career as he continues to impress in his newly-found right-wing back role.

The former Norwich City man is set to start his fifth match in a row against Arsenal today – and Howey has urged his former club to open contracts talks.

Howey told Football FanCast: “He scored a great goal against Burnley and I think he deserves a new contract, but I think it’s not fair in some ways when players want to sign a new contract but they don’t feel like the club want them to.

“Players might start to think that I’ll just leave on a free because a club has messed them about and players want to have that little bit of extra security in their careers.”
