'Legend' - Agent reacts to Newcastle United agreement after 'complex' Ross Wilson talks
Newcastle United contracts: Defender Fabian Schar has extended his stay at the club until June 2027.
Fabian Schar’s agent has hailed the Newcastle United defender as a ‘legend and a true fighter’ after signing a new deal at the club.
Schar is the longest continually serving player at Newcastle and has made over 250 appearances for the club as he prepares to head into his ninth season after signing a new short-term deal until 2027.
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson admitted the discussions regarding a new deal for Schar were ‘complex’ as the defender and his representatives agreed to reduced terms.
While Schar has historically been a key player in Eddie Howe’s side, he hasn’t featured for Newcastle since January due to injury. The Swiss centre-back suffered ankle ligament damage that ruled him out for a few months before his season was cut short by a foot infection picked up on his road to recovery.
But Schar’s agent, Sascha Breese, has described the player as ‘one of the most reliable figures’ at Newcastle following the new contract agreement.
Breese, who described Schar as a ‘NUFC legend and a true fighter’ following his new deal, released a short statement on Instagram reacting to the 2027 contract.

It read: “Committed to the Toon until 2027. Fabian Schär extends his contract with Newcastle United — and the Swiss defender remains one of the most reliable figures at the back at St. James’ Park.
“In 251 appearances for the club, he has scored 22 goals and provided 10 assists. A key highlight was his stunning strike in the unforgettable 4–1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain. Solid. Reliable. A true Magpie.”
Fabian Schar fully focused on new season with NUFC
As he looks to return to action for Newcastle in pre-season, Schar said: “I’m really pleased to be staying at the club. I feel like I’ve achieved a lot in my eight years here but I believe there is still much more to come.
“I’m proud to call Newcastle home. Everybody knows how happy I am, both in this city and with this club, so I’m very glad to be continuing that for another year.
