Northern League: Boldon CA characters shines through in Billingham Synthonia win

Boldon CA continue to top the Northern League Division Two table after their 4-2 win at Billingham Synthonia.

Joint-manager Chris Spence hailed the character shown by in-form Boldon CA as they came from two goals down to preserve their place at the top of the Northern League Division Two table with a win at Billingham Synthonia.

A lacklustre opening 25 minutes allowed their hosts to take control of the contest with goals from Jack Lamb and Charlie Raby - but Boldon’s response was ferocious as they made it nine wins in their opening ten games of an increasingly exciting season.

Liam Thear and Garon Garside got their side back on level-terms by the time the half-time whistle was blown before Thear doubled his tally midway through the second-half to put his side in front for the first time in the game. That allowed Mark Robinson to round off the comeback in the closing stages when he added a fourth goal with five minutes remaining to allow Spence to deliver a positive verdict on the trip to Teesside.

He told The Gazette: “I think the character the lads showed to go two goals down and fetch it back to two-two speaks volumes about the group we have. Ultimately, we started slowly and you can’t do that in this league - but to get ourselves back level before half-time shows what we’re about and the attitude we have in the squad. The quality we’ve brought in has been brilliant. We knew what we wanted, we knew the style of play we wanted to play, and the lads have taken it all on board. They’ve settled in really well and the performances are showing that.”
