Northern League: Redcar Town defeat a 'tough one to take' for Jarrow

Jarrow and Boldon CA both suffered defeats in Northern League Division Two on Saturday.

Jarrow manager Kennie Malia described his side’s defeat at Northern League Division Two title contenders Redcar Town as ‘a tough one to take’.

The Perth Green outfit were looking to move on from an underwhelming draw against neighbours Boldon CA last Monday - and they made the perfect start on Teesside as Jack Armstrong fired them in front of with 18 minutes on the clock. Their lead remained in place until the final 10 minutes when a quickfire brace from former Spennymoor Town midfielder Craig Gott turned the game on its head and moved the hosts a step closer to securing a first ever promotion into the Northern League’s top tier.

Speaking after the game, a disappointed Malia told The Gazette: “That one is a really tough one to take because I feel we more than deserved a point from the game. The weather was brutal in the second half and we couldn't really get out of our half because of how strong the wind was so we had to defend for large spells. It looks like it will be down to the last game to make sure we get our home tie in the play-offs so we still have work to do.”

Elsewhere, Boldon CA were unable to build on their dramatic late draw at Jarrow as they fell as they fell to a narrow home defeat against Chester-le-Street United. Former Whickham and Dunston UTS striker Scott Robson grabbed the only goal of the game to leave Boldon with work to do if they are to preserve their Northern League status for another season.
