The 21-year-old centre-back joined the Black Cats on loan from Wolves last year and scored his first goal for the Wearsiders in a 2-0 win over Rochdale.

Sanderson’s performances have led to speculation about his future, and according to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all interested.

Wolves rate Sanderson highly but are said to be willing to listen to offers for the player, who will be out of contract in 2022.

The Mail’s report suggests Sanderson would be interested in staying at Sunderland if they gain promotion to the Championship.

Reports have also claimed Championship clubs Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday expressed interest earlier in the season, while Bristol City and Huddersfield are said to be tracking the player.

Sunderland remain fourth in League One following the Rochdale win but have won five of their last six league games.
