Live like a lord and lady of the manor in this fabulously historic Boldon property
A history which stretches back more than 600 years
A fantastic property in Boldon is for sale at £275,000 and it has a history which stretches back more than 600 years.
The superb apartment is within the Scotts House / Mansion House in West Boldon.
Dane Nicholson, of Zebra Leisure Lease Ltd, is selling the property which is listed with Colin Lilley Estate Agents.
Dane said: “The history surrounding Scotts House is immense.”
“Historical records show Richard Hedworth as possessing “Scottes House” on Boldon Moor in 1381. Although the mansion standing today is substantially later, it occupies this much older historic dwelling and estate site.
“Older historical material has even described Scots House as potentially “the oldest private dwelling-house in the district”.
“The surviving Scots House is itself a Grade II* listed building, reflecting its considerable architectural and historic importance.
During the First World War, Scots House and its extensive grounds were used in connection with the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers, stationed at East Boldon as part of the Tyne Garrison.
“The area’s military history continued during the Second World War, with a prisoner-of-war camp documented at West Boldon. Within the grounds of Scots House there also remains an old engraved gravestone which has traditionally been associated with a German prisoner of war and which remains set within the grounds to this day.
“In later years, Mansion House was sympathetically converted into six individual homes — four main apartments and two loft apartments — allowing the building to be preserved while giving it a completely new chapter in its history.
“The apartment I am now selling has undergone a substantial refurbishment and is the largest apartment within the Mansion House.”
