A Cleadon pub has announced it will close its doors after its landlord’s retirement announcement.

A pub in Cleadon has said it will close until a new landlord for the site is found.

The Cottage Tavern on the corner of Sunderland Road and North Street in the village will say goodbye to its manager Neil this weekend with the future of the bar now uncertain.

A statement from the pub’s team posted to social media reads: “Due to Neil’s retirement on Sunday The Cottage Tavern has closed its doors until a new manager or owner is found. So unfortunately bands are cancelled for July and August for now.

“But Neil would like to thank you all for your custom and loyalty through out the years he has served. But it is time to retire.”

In August 2023 the pub reopened after major renovation work. At the time staff said renovations would continue on a five year cycle to keep the site looking fresh.
