Shocking picture shows flytipping at Temple Park

South Tyneside Council issued the appeal on Tuesday, October 6 after it launched an investigation into a case of dumped rubbish at Temple Park, South Shields.

The authority said that a ‘significant’ amount of kitchen and bathroom waste was illegally dumped in the park.

The incident is thought to have happened over the weekend.

Councillor Joan Atkinson, Lead Member for Area Management and Community Safety, pledged to clamp down on the ‘tiny majority’ of people blighting the beauty of the borough with their irresponsible actions.

She said: “It is hugely irresponsible to dump waste in this way and blight the beauty of our public spaces.

“We will simply not tolerate this reckless behaviour of a tiny minority of people. However, we need the public’s support. We would urge anyone who recognises any of the items to get in touch with us.”

Residents have also been reminded to use South Tyneside’s recycling village, at Middlefields Industrial Estate, South Shields, to dispose of their waste.

If members of the public wish to provide information on flytipping offenders, their calls will be treated in the strictest confidence by the council.

Cllr Atkinson added: “A vehicle must have been used to transport the waste on at least three separate occasions over the last two weeks.

"We would encourage anyone who can help in providing a description or registration details to contact us.”
