Freddie Woodman England's hero as Newcastle keeper saves penalty in historic Under-20 World Cup final win

Newcastle United keeper Freddie Woodman was England's hero as he produced a second-half penalty to stop to ensure the Ypung Lions Lions won the Under-20 World Cup.

The only goal of the game came in the 35th minute when Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin tucked home against Venezuela in the Under-20 World Cup final in Suwon, Korea.

But the Young Lions, managed by former Magpies coach Paul Simpson, had Woodman, on loan at Kilmarnock last season, to thank for victory, as he produced a second-half penalty stop from Adalberto Penaranda.

That save, along with Calvert-Lewin's goal made a little bit of history, with England, who'd never won a game at this level in 10 years, picking up their first world final win since 1966.

Fellow United youngster Adam Armstrong was an unused sub in the final.
