The striker was handed the suspension after admitting a Football Association charge of violent conduct for elbowing Manuel Lanzini in the 3-0 win over West Ham United last month.

And Mitrovic has revealed a conversation he had with Lanzini after the game.

Meanwhile, Francisco de Miguel Moreno, Newcastle's fitness coach, will take Rafa Benitez's press conference at 1.30pm this afternoon.

United manager Benitez is recovering from a operation late last week and could miss Sunday's Premier League game against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Also, winger Christian Atsu has spoken about his early-season run in Benitez's starting XI, while Newcastle have revealed a new shirt sleeve sponsor.

Hard to understand?

Mitrovic didn't contest the FA's charge, but the striker clearly disagrees with it.

“It is very frustrating for me, but I can’t change anything now,” said Mitrovic.

“These are the rules, but I didn’t mean to do this, the things they have accused me of. It wasn’t even a foul in the game, but I have to accept the rules and respect the decision that has been made.

“I didn’t mean it, it wasn’t even a foul, I have three or four incidents like this every match so I don’t understand it.

"If I say something more, though, they can punish me even more. I just have to take this on the chin and make sure I stay as fit as possible so that I can help the team when I return."

Perfect fit

Newcastle's players will wear the logo of Indian tyre conglomerate Madras Rubber Factory Limited – known as MRF – on their shirt sleeves this season.

Managing director Lee Charnley said: “I am delighted to welcome MRF as the club’s first shirt sleeve partner.

“MRF is a hugely respected global brand and a market leader in a territory where a passion for football is continuing to grow.

“The partnership is a great fit for Newcastle United and we look forward to building our relationship and assisting MRF in growth both domestically and internationally.”

Mitrovic might be suspended, but Shelvey is back from a three-game ban for stamping on Dele Alli in the club's season-opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

Wing wonder

Christian Atsu came to England in 2014.

And the winger, signed on a permanent deal from Chelsea in May, has had to wait until now to get a chance in the Premier League.

"I’m very happy that I’m playing week in, week out," said Atsu. "There’s a lot of competition, so I just need to work hard and try to compete with my colleagues."
