North East's Teenage Cancer Trust unit receives festive surprise from store giant Aldi

Young people receiving cancer treatment in the North East have been treated to a surprise delivery of festive goodies from Aldi, helping them celebrate the holiday season away from home.

The unit at the RVI in Newcastle received festive hampers including everything from chocolate Santas to festive Gonks and the new Kevin and Katie plush toys to bring a little bit of seasonal cheer to young people, families and staff alike.

Since partnering with Teenage Cancer Trust in 2017, Aldi has raised over £12million for the charity, with a goal to raise £20million by 2031 so that no young person faces cancer alone.

This Christmas, 28 Teenage Cancer Trust units across the UK have received Aldi’s festive packages – part of the supermarket’s ongoing support for the charity and its work with young people.

Michelle Aucott, Senior Partnerships Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Aldi for this kind gesture.

"These small seasonal donations go a long way in lifting spirits on the unit and making sure young people feel supported and remembered at this time of year.”

Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, added: “Christmas can be a difficult time to be away from home, so we hope this small surprise brought a smile to the faces of the young people, families and nurses spending the festive season in hospital.”

Teenage Cancer Trust works in partnership with the NHS to provide highly trained staff and specialist units in hospitals across the UK.

The charity supports young people through diagnosis, treatment, recovery and brings them together so they don’t have to face cancer alone.
