Woman helped to safety after concern for her at Marsden cliffs in South Shields
Emergency services and volunteers were scrambled after concerns for a woman on the South Shields coast.
South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), the Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, the North East Ambulance Service and Northumbria Police were called to Marsden, on a stretch of The Leas, at 7.14pm yesterday, Tuesday, April 13.
It followed concerns for the welfare of a woman, who was seen close to the cliff’s edge.
A spokesperson for the SSVLB said the woman was checked over by ambulance staff before being taken into the care of police
They added: “Teams set up their rope rescue equipment and other team members were deployed to the beach.
"After several minutes she came back to the correct side and was checked over by ambulance staff before leaving with police.”
The team has added a reminder that in all coastal emergencies, people should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
