Police appeal after missing woman's car found beside River Tyne

Police today renewed an appeal for help to find a missing mum after her car was found parked beside the River Tyne.

Mother-of-two Margaret MacDermott disappeared from her home in Bolbec Road, Fenham, Newcastle, in the early hours of yesterday.

Her blue Renault Captur was found parked on Broad Chare on Newcastle Quayside yesterday afternoon.

CCTV footage has now revealed it was parked there by Margaret at about 5am on Saturday.

She has never been missing before and her disappearance is described as completely out of character.

She 5ft 2in, slim, with short, grey hair. A long-term sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), she has a very distinctive walk.

It is believed she may be wearing a dark coloured jacket and trousers and white trainers.

Chief Inspector Ron Charlton of Northumbria Police said: "Margaret's family are understandably very concerned for her welfare and we are working hard to locate her safe and well.

"We have identified CCTV footage that shows Margaret leaving her car on the Quayside at around 5am, so we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in that area at the time.

"If you were out jogging or walking your dog at the time then please try and remember if you saw a woman with a distinctive limp walking in the area.

"Our investigation will be focused on Margaret's movements in those early hours. Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital to helping us reunite her with her family."
