Cricket club launches planning bid to revamp outdoor area

A South Tyneside cricket club is looking to improve its facilities for members and supporters.

An application has been submitted on behalf of Marsden Cricket Club in South Shields to redevelop part of its outdoor area.

The planning application notes the club has a large decking area at the rear exterior of the clubhouse and a small pergola-style area located in the centre of the decking area.

New plans aim to glaze this portion of the decking area to create an “extra enclosed area” for those using the cricket club.

The planning application said the clubhouse’s existing bar is small and can hold around 40 people at capacity, despite the club having a membership of around 100 people.

It was noted that during periods of “bad weather”, the outdoor area creates difficulties for members and supporters, with the new planning application aiming to solve these issues.

The planning application adds: “The plan will create an extra enclosed area in order for our members to sit comfortably and in a warmer environment.

“This will allow our members to stay longer during bad weather and increase our revenue streams allowing us to grow further.

“The decking area will not have a change of purpose at all and will remain to be used as it currently is.”

A decision on the planning application is expected following a consultation.
