Hebburn Town to face familiar foes in FA Cup second qualifying round
The draw for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup was made on Monday lunchtime.
Hebburn Town FC chief executive Stephen Rutherford is relishing ‘a fantastic occasion’ after they Hornets were handed a home tie against Stockton Town and Guiseley in Monday’s FA Cup second qualifying round draw.
Both clubs are well-known to Daniel Moore’s side after they battled with Stockton for the Northern Premier League East title before competing alongside the Anchors and Guiseley in the Premier Division over the last two seasons. Hebburn’s potential opponents will meet in a first qualifying round replay at Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park on Tuesday night after they battled to a 2-2 draw on Teesside on Saturday - and Rutherford is looking forward to meeting the winners of the tie at the Trustmark Group Stadium on Saturday week.

He told The Gazette: “The FA Cup is a special competition for any non-league club. We always want to do well in it and at this stage, to have a home draw always provides a little advantage so we’re really pleased to be hosting either our friends from Stockton Town who we know a lot about, or Guiseley, who again we’ve played a number of times. We’ll find out on Tuesday night who we’ll be welcoming to the Trustmark Group Stadium. This should be a fantastic occasion, a fantastic game and another one where we can hopefully put on a great show for our supporters.”
Meanwhile, the Hornets will travel to Radcliffe on Tuesday night as they look to extend a remarkable start to their first ever season in the second tier of the non-league game. A 3-0 defeat at Macclesfield represents the only defeat Moore’s men have suffered in their first seven games as a National League North club and they will hope to pour more misery on their hosts after they collected just three points from the same number of games. Moore will have several big calls to make an Saturday’s impressive home draw with Chester and could consider rotating his squad after a hectic first month of the season.
Radcliffe were delivered a blow ahead of the game after the Hornets’ South Tyneside neighbours South Shields completed a deal to sign key forward Rio Clegg on Monday.
