Daniel Moore not surprised by Hebburn Town FC's impressive display in Chester draw

Tom Allan’s equaliser earned Hebburn Town a 1-1 home draw with National League North rivals Chester.

Daniel Moore wasn’t surprised by Hebburn Town FC’s impressive display in Saturday’s draw with Chester - because it was the level of performance he believes his side have shown throughout the first month of the season.

The Hornets went into the game looking to bounce back from Monday’s defeat against Macclesfield as they suffered a first loss since securing promotion into the National League North. Despite making a positive start in their return to the Trustmark Group Stadium, Moore’s men found themselves a goal down inside ten minutes as Nathan Woodthorpe’s deflected effort found its way beyond Hornets keeper Isaac Allan.

However, roared on by the vast majority of the over-1,200 crowd, Hebburn got back into the game seven minutes into the second-half as Tom Allan racked up his first goal for the club with a stunning effort from outside of the area. There were chances for a win with Allan, Jake Charles and Josh Donaldson all going close in the final 20 minutes - but the points were shared after an action-packed affair came to an end after five minutes of added-on time.

Moore praised his players for their performance against a visiting side that are expected to challenge for promotion this season and described his players as ‘absolutely outstanding to a man’.

He said: “It was a brilliant performance. I think both teams had chances but we are disappointed we haven’t got three points against a very, very good side. They are one of the teams that people have said are going to be up there and you can see why. They’re very dangerous going forward and ultimately, us switching off once has cost us three points. I think that we have had some great opportunities in the second-half. I can’t fault the lads, they were absolutely outstanding to a man - but that’s the standards we’ve had this season. No disrespect to Chester but that’s not because we are playing Chester and they’re a big side. We’ve been like that all season and we will continue to be like that.”

The Hornets are back in action when they travel to Radcliffe on Tuesday night before returning to the Trustmark Group Stadium to host former Northern Premier League title rivals Hednesford Town.
