Speaking as a pundit on Amazon Prime’s coverage of Newcastle United’s visit to Vicarage Road, Shearer was a big fan of Gayle’s opener.

“If you get in there often enough you'll get three or four goals a season from it,” said Shearer.

“He hasn't been fit for a lot of the time. Steve Bruce has had to play Joelinton. Gayle offers a goal threat.

“A great centre-forward's goal.”
