Newcastle United fear 'long-term' injury as Matthias Jaissle confirms blow live on Sky Sports
Newcastle United team news: Matthias Jaissle’s side are without Anthony Elanga at Leeds United on Monday night.
Newcastle United were dealt a fresh injury blow ahead of Monday night’s match at Leeds United as Anthony Elanga failed to travel with the matchday squad.
The Magpies confirmed an injury to the winger ahead of the game as he joined Joelinton, William Osula, Dan Burn and Ewen Jaouen on the absentee list.
Burn was in attendance for the trip to Elland Road but remained out of the matchday squad while Matthias Jaissle was boosted by Amar Dedic keeping his place in the side despite being withdrawn last time out at Millwall due to a hamstring issue.

But Elanga’s absence, which was not confirmed until Newcastle’s team news dropped ahead of the Premier League clash at Elland Road, comes as a concerning blow following the winger’s strong start to the season.
The 24-year-old scored in each of Newcastle’s opening two matches of the Premier League season against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, the latter of which won him the Premier League goal of the month award for August.

But Newcastle now face being without Elanga for an extended period as they await further assessment of his injury.
Head coach Jaissle was asked about Elanga’s issue ahead of the match. While he would not reveal the specific injury, the Newcastle boss told Sky Sports: "It could be long term. He will get another MRI next week and we will see."
