When will the Carabao Cup quarter-finals be played?
The Carabao Cup quarter-final fixtures are scheduled for the week commencing Monday, December 14.
The four ties will determine which clubs progress to the two-legged semi-finals in January and February, with the final scheduled to take place at Wembley on Sunday, March 21, 2027.
Everton vs Newcastle United: Match preview
Newcastle head to Merseyside aiming to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup for a fifth consecutive season, having developed an impressive record in the competition in recent years.
The Magpies famously ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by beating Liverpool at Wembley in 2025, before reaching the semi-finals last season.
Under Matthias Jaissle, Newcastle have already negotiated two Championship opponents in this season's competition, overcoming West Bromwich Albion 3-2 before a narrow 1-0 victory over Millwall.
They also arrive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium buoyed by Sunday's 2-0 Premier League victory at Crystal Palace, with Harvey Barnes and William Osula among the players who could feature again.
Everton, meanwhile, enter the encounter looking to respond to successive 2-0 league defeats against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Moyes' side have enjoyed a relatively straightforward passage through the competition so far, defeating Preston North End 4-0 before edging out Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0.
The Toffees are yet to concede in the Carabao Cup this season, although Newcastle could take encouragement from their most recent trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where they recorded a convincing 4-1 Premier League victory last November.
Interestingly, this is the first of two meetings between the clubs in the space of five days, with Everton travelling to St James' Park for a Premier League fixture on Monday, November 2.
Newcastle United team news ahead of Everton clash
Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle has confirmed that Lewis Miley and Matias Fernandez-Pardo remain doubtful for Thursday's cup tie.
Miley has been struggling with a glute injury, while Fernandez-Pardo has been recovering from illness. Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen also remain unavailable.
However, Jaissle has indicated he will resist the temptation to make wholesale changes, despite the quick turnaround between fixtures.
Speaking ahead of the match, the Newcastle boss made clear his intention to go ‘all in’ and field a strong side, acknowledging the club's recent success in the competition and the expectations that now come with it.
More than 7,700 Newcastle supporters are expected to make the trip to Merseyside, with the Magpies hoping to take another step towards Wembley.
Everton also have fitness concerns, with Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite among the players who missed last weekend's defeat to Arsenal.
The stage is therefore set for a potentially intriguing cup encounter, with both clubs hoping to keep their hopes of silverware alive.
And with the quarter-final opponent already revealed, there will be an added incentive for Newcastle to continue their impressive recent Carabao Cup record.
If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the tie will be decided by a penalty shootout rather than extra time.
