Fabrizio Romano makes Newcastle United transfer claim after interest in £39m Kieran Trippier replacement
Newcastle United transfers: Fabrizio Romano has confirmed one player the club won’t be signing this summer amid interest from elsewhere.
Newcastle United’s tentative interest in Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra has cooled amid Serie A interest.
The Magpies didn’t make a formal approach to sign the 21-year-old Italian, who is international teammates with Sandro Tonali.
Eddie Howe is looking to sign a right-back this summer following the departure of Kieran Trippier, who has since joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer. Emil Krafth will also depart the club and Harrison Ashby will be allowed to leave this summer.

Newcastle United’s right-back situation
Tino Livramento’s long-term future at St James’ Park is also uncertain as he heads into the final two years of his contract. The England international has been subject to transfer interest from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal but nothing has progressed so far.
20-year-old Lewis Miley has proven himself a competent emergency alternative at right-back, but is still viewed primarily as a midfielder.
And as Newcastle scour the market for reinforcements at right-back, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has crossed one name off the club’s list.
Though there are doubts as to whether they were ever seriously exploring a move.
NUFC ‘not expected’ to move for defender
He tweeted: “Marco Palestra to Newcastle not expected to happen despite interest and availability to pay what Atalanta requested. The player has not opened doors to the move while Inter remain in talks for €45m [£39m] package, still not enough for Atalanta.”
