'Special' - Matthias Jaissle makes 'crazy' Leeds United claim ahead of Newcastle United clash
Matthias Jaissle looks ahead to Newcastle United’s Premier League clash away to Leeds United.
Matthias Jaissle is expecting another ‘special’ atmosphere when Newcastle United travel to Leeds United on Monday night.
Newcastle emerged from The Den as 1-0 winners against Millwall in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, but there is little respite for Jaissle’s side as they visit another notoriously hostile venue in Elland Road.
The Magpies are unbeaten at the start of the new Premier League season, but so too are Leeds, with the two teams picking up a win and two draws from their opening three matches.

Matthias Jaissle expecting ‘special’ Elland Road atmosphere
“It will be special,” Jaissle said. “I've heard many things already about that [Elland Road]. Definitely, we need to be aware of it, like we were aware of it when we played at The Den in Millwall, it was also a crazy atmosphere down there and it will be the same in Leeds.
“But if you can face that, if you can match that, also emotional-wise, intrinsically, from our players... we have the support as well, also an away match from our fans, then we can have a good result.”
Jaissle’s men are unbeaten in all competitions after beating Championship sides West Bromwich Albion and Millwall in both Carabao Cup rounds so far. Leeds, however, were dumped out of the competition by Chelsea in midweek, losing 6-3 at Stamford Bridge.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke made eight changes to his starting line-up and it started well after Marik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson put the visitors 2-0 in front.
Chelsea boss Xavi Alonso made four changes at half-time and three of those, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers, had a significant impact. Palmer netted a quick-fire brace to level things before Neto put the hosts in front. Danny Welbeck then added a fourth, with Rogers providing assists for all four goals.
Farke responded with a quadruple substitution of his own, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back to give Leeds hope. However, goals from Valentin Barco and Welbeck in the final 10 minutes put the game beyond the Whites.
Matthias Jaissle - ‘Leeds are a top team’
Muharemovic, Ethan Ampadu and James Justin were the only players to keep their place from the side that drew 1-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League three days earlier.
Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach, Noah Okafor, Ao Tanaka, and Gabriel Gudmundsson were introduced during the second half, while James Trafford, Nico Elvedi and Jayden Bogle remained on the bench.
“Yeah, we acknowledge that it's a top team,” said Jaissle. “He [Daniel Farke] is doing an excellent job with his team.
“You saw that in the cup. Even though they rotated, you saw that, especially in the first half, what they're able to do and how they're able to challenge every opponent.”
Leeds have followed up their 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the Premier League season with consecutive 1-1 draws against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.
