Watch as hundreds of Newcastle United fans turn out for emotional Kevin Keegan tribute

Tributes to Newcastle United legend Kevin Keegan are now on public display at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.

Hundreds of Newcastle United fans gathered at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art as a tribute display honouring Kevin Keegan opened to the public on Saturday morning.

Keegan – one of the greatest figures in the Magpies' history – sadly passed away in July. In the days following his death, thousands of supporters left heartfelt messages, shirts, scarves and mementoes outside St. James' Park.

Newcastle and Liverpool, another of Keegan's former clubs, then came together on the opening weekend of the Premier League season to pay tribute to the legendary former player and manager.

The centre-circle banner displayed that day, designed by fan group Wor Flags using more than 500 football shirts and handwritten tributes left outside St. James' Park, was the centrepiece of the Baltic exhibition. Other donated shirts and a commemorative film celebrating Keegan's life and career were also on display.

Hundreds of Newcastle supporters attended the exhibition's opening at 10am on Saturday, with the tribute display remaining open to the public until Sunday afternoon.

Speaking when plans for the public display were first announced earlier this month, Newcastle United’s Chief Operating Officer said: “The tributes left following Kevin Keegan’s passing touched millions around the world, with more than 52,000 fans uniting at St. James’ Park to pay their respects during our opening fixture against Liverpool.

“This display offers an opportunity for more fans and the wider public to view those tributes up close, reflect on Kevin’s extraordinary impact, and celebrate the legacy he leaves for generations of supporters. It also ensures that our fans’ heartfelt messages are carefully preserved, honouring a truly legendary figure.”
