Newcastle United green light striker move - and it's not Nick Woltemade

Newcastle United have given another striker permission to leave on transfer deadline day.

Nick Woltemade might not be the only striker leaving Newcastle United on transfer deadline day.

Woltemade is currently in Italy finalising his season-long loan move to Juventus. The agreement is a straight loan, with no obligation or option to buy.

The 24-year-old’s departure comes just a year after he joined the Magpies for a club-record £69million from Stuttgart.

After a bright start to his Tyneside career, Woltemade has struggled for form since the turn of the year after being moved into midfield by former boss Eddie Howe.

Under Matthias Jaissle, he has found himself behind the likes of Will Osula, Yoane Wissa and Joe Willock in the pecking order at striker and No.10.

The Magpies are also set to sign versatile attacker Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for £51million, which further paves the way for Woltemade’s exit.

Woltemade might not be the only striker to depart on loan before tonight’s 11pm deadline, with 19-year-old Sean Neave attracting interest from Championship and League One clubs.

Neave made both his Premier League and Champions League debut last season but first-team opportunities have been few and far between. He was on the bench for the Carabao Cup second win over West Bromwich Albion last week, but wasn’t in the squad for Premier League matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The young striker said recently that he was open to leaving on loan.

"I want to be playing senior football week-in, week-out even if that's a loan or getting dipped in and out of games here, trying to impress the gaffer,” Neave said. “Whatever it is, I just want to be playing football. That's my passion and I hope this season goes well."
