Second player ruled out of Newcastle United v Hull City due to Premier League rules
Newcastle United v Hull City team news: Both clubs are battling injury concerns heading into Saturday’s Premier League clash at St James’ Park.
Two players are set to miss Saturday’s Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Hull City due to the Football Association’s concussion protocol.
Newcastle midfielder Nico Gonzalez was forced off following a head injury picked up in the 4-1 defeat at Leeds United on Monday night. It came after Hull defender Nobel Mendy was forced off in the 2-2 draw at Chelsea.
Mendy suffered a nasty head collision with Chelsea forward Joao Pedro and was taken to hospital with a suspected concussion.

When asked about the player after the match, Hull head coach Sergej Jakirović said: "Not good. We think he has a concussion. He went to the hospital and after head scan we will know more."
Regardless of the outcome of the head scan, FA concussion protocol will force Mendy to sit out Saturday’s trip to St James’ Park.
FA concussion protocol
The Football Association rules state that any player who suffers a concussion must be ruled out for at least 12 days after the initial head injury, provided symptoms have cleared, or seven days if exceptional criteria are met.
That rules both Mendy and Gonzalez out of Saturday’s match at St James’ Park. Newcastle are also set to be without Joelinton, Dan Burn, William Osula and Anthony Elanga. Jacob Ramsey is also a doubt after suffering an injury in the warm up at Leeds United.
Goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has returned to training this week and is in contention to return to the matchday squad.
In addition to Mendy, Hull are without Eliot Matazo, Darko Gyabi, Jack Butland, Ilyas Ansah, Charlie Hughes and Hidemasa Morita, while Paddy McNair is a doubt.
