Matthias Jaissle reveals 'something special' he discovered about Newcastle United just weeks into new role
Matthias Jaissle has revealed what has surpsied him the most since making the step into English football with Newcastle United.
Matthias Jaissle’s first experience of English football and Newcastle United is going well so far.
The 38-year-old was appointed as Newcastle’s head coach at the start of August and he has since got his career in England off to a positive start with three wins and two draws in his opening five matches in all competitions.
Given the overhaul at Newcastle during the summer which saw key players depart, it has been an impressive start in the circumstances.

While Jaissle has admitted the rules surrounding remaining in his technical area during matches will take some getting used to after his yellow card against Bournemouth last weekend, the former Al Ahli and Red Bull Salzburg boss has not been massively surprised by what English football has had to offer so far.
Though he did make one exception, regarding what he has witnessed at St James’ Park so far this season.
“Yeah, honestly, not too much I'm surprised, because I expected a lot already,” Jaissle said about his start to life in England.
“Still, I'm positively surprised about the atmosphere at home. It's something special; I heard many things about that, but feeling it then, it's something else.”
Jaissle’s Newcastle side opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at St James’ Park before beating West Bromwich Albion 3-2 in the Carabao Cup second round. Last time out at St James’ Park was also a 2-2 draw, this time against AFC Bournemouth.
Meanwhile, away from home Newcastle are yet to concede having beaten Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the league and Millwall 1-0 in the Carabao Cup third round.
But Jaissle’s next taste of English football action will come at Elland Road on Monday night (8pm kick-off) as Newcastle take on Leeds United. Both sides are looking to continue their unbeaten starts to the new Premier League season with another loud atmosphere expected.
