‘Anger’ - Alan Shearer does not hold back in Matthias Jaissle warning at Newcastle United

Alan Shearer was not happy after Newcastle United lost 4-1 to Coventry City on Monday.

Alan Shearer has warned Matthias Jaissle that he cannot get away with performances like Monday night in front of the St James’ Park crowd.

Newcastle United were thrashed 4-1 for the second consecutive away game. While Leeds United presented a tough challenge before the international break, Toon fans expected a stronger showing at newly promoted Coventry City.

However, the Magpies once again limped to another weak display on the road. Newcastle welcome Aston Villa - another side in transition after a hectic summer - to Tyneside this weekend.

Alan Shearer warning to Matthias Jaissle

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer discussed his disappointment at the Coventry defeat and the Villa game on Saturday. He said: “Newcastle were really poor on Monday evening against Coventry. There was a chance just before half-time where Fernandez-Pardo had one blocked on the line. It might've been different. It wasn't. It just wasn't pretty.

“As much as it hurts me, I guess when you're getting battered 4-1, and you get battered four at Leeds, I did expect it this season. I've said it before, I do expect it to be a yo-yo season but you can't have too many of them after the Leeds game and that's two now, both on a Monday night. So let's hope we can avoid playing on a Monday night.

"I will be at St James’ Park on Saturday. Aston Villa had a great result in the Champions League, scoring six so that's going to be a really, really tough game.

“They have got to bounce back. You need a game straight away and they've got it on Saturday. It's not acceptable at any home or away game to lose how they have done, but they won't get away with that at home with 52,000 fans there.”

‘Needs a result’ - Alan Shearer

Shearer also stressed that Jaissle “needs a result” to avoid risking the wrath of the fans. He added: “Depending on what happens with the result, you'll find out what Newcastle is and can be if they don't get the right result or if they get a similar result on Saturday.

“Matthias Jaissle will feel the anger of the fans unless they see a massive improvement because that's not acceptable going away twice and conceding four goals. Jaissle needs a result massively.

“You can overreact sometimes because if Newcastle had gone to Coventry and won, they'd have been fourth. I think Newcastle are where I thought they'd be at this stage of the season, so there's no panic."
