Newcastle United release huge Anthony Elanga update as Matias Fernandez-Pardo 'issues' revealed

Newcastle United head coach Mattias Jaissle has issued updates on Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Newcastle United are set to have Anthony Elanga available for their Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Swede scored in two of the Magpies’ opening three Premier League matches before picking up an injury in the build-up to the 4-1 defeat at Leeds United.

Elanga has missed the last seven weeks but head coach Matthias Jaissle has confirmed his winger will be in the squad for the visit to Selhurst Park as United look to bounce back from successive defeats to Coventry City and Aston Villa.

Newcastle United issue Anthony Elanga update

“First of all, I'm pleased that slowly we're getting the players back,” Jaissle said. “Now the next question is their physical level, so we need to take that also step by step.

“For sure, he's not able to play 90 minutes, but he trained and worked really hard in the rehab, so I count on him for sure, as he's hopefully also ready now to be at least able to join the squad, and then maybe it's the first time that he also gets some minutes.”

Jacob Ramsey has also been back training after sustaining a groin injury in the pre-match warm-up at Leeds, but Jaissle didn’t confirm whether the midfielder would travel to South London.

“Also with him, we're happy that he's back on the pitch, which also counts the same for the other lads who just returned, that we need to take it step by step and have that load management really on our sheet, that we're not taking too much risk.”

Matias Fernandez-Pardo illness update

Meanwhile, Jaissle revealed that Matias Fernandez-Pardo has only trained “partially” this week due to illness, but is hopeful he’ll recover in time for Palace.

The Magpies’ £51million summer signing felt unwell during the Villa defeat and was replaced before the hour mark. Fernandez-Pardo had started the last three matches as the central striker, but moved to the right wing last weekend.

“Matias still has some issues health-wise, so he can only train partially,” Jaissle said. “Hopefully he can make it until the weekend.”

Jaissle will wait until Saturday after training before determining whether the likes of Dan Burn, Will Osula and Amar Dedic are fit to start.

“We still have two days left and they're doing progress,” Jaissle said. “This is something important now in that period that you feel that the physical level is improving. Also during the week in the training sessions, so that's something we can count on.

“Maybe one or the other are fit enough to start.”
