Previous boss Alfons Groenendijk walked away from the club earlier this month with the club second bottom in the league.

Meanwhile, Newcastle forgotten man Achraf Lazaar was on the scoresheet for loan club Cosenza on Sunday.

The Moroccan defender came off the bench to net within two minutes of entering the fray in the Serie B encounter against Pordenone at Stadio San Vito-Gigi Marulla. Lazaar’s side were beaten 2-1.

And finally, Newcastle look to have tied up their first January deal, beating off competition from Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers to land a highly-rated youngster.
