Not just Harvey Barnes - Newcastle United want another £40m England star to commit long-term future

Harvey Barnes has committed his future and Newcastle United hope Tino Livramento will follow suit.

Newcastle United remain hopeful of extending Tino Livramento’s contract in the near future.

Ross Wilson publicly made a fresh deal for the full-back his top priority following his appointment as sporting director. However, Livramento - who has now entered the final two years of his agreement - is yet to commit his future to St James’ Park.

Manchester City and Arsenal were understood to be expressing interest in the England international earlier this year. But a patchy injury record is thought to have repelled the big clubs - for now.

Livramento started just 14 Premier League games for Newcastle last season. Despite this, Thomas Tuchel called him up to his World Cup squad - where he broke down again on the eve of England’s opening fixture.

Tino Livramento contract stand-off

The Toon defender is currently working his way back to full fitness with a calf injury. He has not returned to full training, with sources suggesting the end of pre-season as a timescale.

With Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth gone, Livramento is the only first-team option at right-back. Newcastle are in the market for a right-back but do wish to tie the former Southampton man down on a long-term deal.

When asked about his precarious situation by NewcastleWorld in November, the right-back issued a vague response. He said: “That's (his future) nothing that I'm in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent. For me, I've been out for seven weeks. I've been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team.”

Newcastle United announce contract extension

Harvey Barnes is one star who has already pledged his prime years to the Magpies. An announcement on Monday confirmed that the winger - who scored 16 goals last season - has extended his contract.

Anthony Gordon’s sale gives Barnes the chance to stake his claim as the standout left-winger on Tyneside. He will also face competition from Bazoumana Toure, a £42million new arrival from Hoffenheim.

On signing a new deal, Barnes said: “It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m delighted to continue that.

“When I first joined the club I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more. I love everything about it. The city, the stadium, the people - and I’m really happy extending my time here.

“I’ve had a taste of success in the last few years and enjoyed some really special moments with this team. We all want more of that and I want to be a key player that helps push the club forward.”
