'We're all...' - Will Osula reveals how Newcastle United players really feel about Matthias Jaissle
Will Osula scored six goals in the final nine Premier League games of last season.
Will Osula has declared that the Newcastle United squad are “excited” to be working under Matthias Jaissle.
Eddie Howe’s resignation came as a shock to Toon fans at the end of last month. Only the key decision makers at St James’ Park - not even the players - were aware of his doubts ahead of the new campaign.
Howe took the early stages of pre-season as Newcastle searched for his replacement. Jaissle soon emerged as the No.1 candidate and arrived with a determination to prove his worth at Premier League level.

‘We’re excited’ - Will Osula
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Osula - who enjoyed a purple patch at the end of last season - opened up about the managerial change. He said: “We're all excited. There's a new manager, we're learning the new styles and ways that he likes to play, so everyone's getting ready for the season to start.
“We've learned his playing styles and already learned different ways in possession, out of possession, and how he likes to play tactically and stuff like that. So it's been good to learn his way of playing.
“It's some things that you don't expect (a manager resigning) but obviously I spoke to them (coaching staff), wished them all the best for the future and showed my gratitude for what they've done to help me so far. Now we've got a new manager and we look forward to doing well under him.”
Will Osula remains confident
Osula scored six goals in the final nine games of 2025-26 to assert himself as the first-choice striker. The Dane now dons the No.10 jersey - succeeding Anthony Gordon - and is keen to kick on further.
“I was waiting for my chances at Newcastle, so I was happy that I was given the opportunity to play and to keep showing what I could do,” Osula added. “That's just what I want to continue to keep doing at the club. I want to continue showing what I can do and remain confident.
“I know what I can do on the pitch, so it's just to keep doing that. It's always nice to be back after a summer. I had a good summer, so it's nice to be back in Newcastle. I'm definitely looking forward to playing at St James' Park again.”
