Newcastle United training ground update after midfielder ruled out for 19 matches
Lewis Miley has teased his return from injury for Newcastle United after seven months out.
Miley saw his 2023-24 season cut short due to a back injury before breaking his metatarsal while preparing for pre-season back in June. The injuries have prevented the 18-year-old from playing since March but now he is closing in on a return.
Injury problems at Newcastle last season ultimately handed Miley an opportunity to make an impact at first team level as he featured in 26 consecutive matches for the club before having his season cut short. He has since missed Newcastle’s last 19 competitive matches in all competitions.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe described Miley as a ‘big miss from our squad’ and admitted it would be ‘huge’ to have him back alongside Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak after the international break. The teenager hasn’t played for Newcastle since the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final back in March.
But now he has posted images of himself back on the grass at the Newcastle training ground with a ball at his feet. Former Sunderland striker Danny Graham, shared the images along with an hourglass emoji, further suggesting the midfielder’s return is close. Graham works for Unique Sports Group, the agency that represents Miley.
Miley will be pushing to return to action very soon but will face stiff competition in midfield as he competes with Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff for a place in the side.
The Magpies host Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
