Aston Villa could have to pay £60m to land striker after Newcastle United transfer decision & UEFA U-turn

Will Osula is enjoying the best form of his Newcastle United career - and that has reportedly brought interest from elsewhere.

There are few Newcastle United players being spoken about as much as Will Osula during the final weeks of the season.

With summer transfer window signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa struggling to make a consistent impact for large parts of the campaign, Magpies boss Eddie Howe has turned to the former Sheffield United man after a stunning solo effort in a 2-1 win against Manchester United kickstarted a run of six goals in his last eight appearances and there are genuine signs Osula is now starting to show genuine progress in every aspect of his game.

The 22-year-old produced yet another eye-catching display on Sunday afternoon as the forward led the line with energy, enthusiasm and composure to score twice in Sunday’s 3-1 home win against West Ham United that pushed the visitors further towards relegation into the Championship. His performance drew praise from Howe as he expressed his delight over Osula’s progress in recent weeks and stressed there is more to come from the forward.

Speaking the win against the Hammers, Howe said of the Danish star: “His confidence seems to be growing, his all-round game is improving. He’s a player of huge potential. He’s got a great pace and power about him. He’s a really, really good finisher off both feet, which is very rare. He’s 6’3″, 6’4”, which is also a really big bonus for us because of set plays and his hold-up play, and he’s got a presence up front. So I think he’s got great tools. He still needs a lot of development. He still needs to stay very humble and level, because I think there’s a lot more to come from him. But he’s certainly done very well and I’m really pleased for him.”

The i Paper have now claimed Osula has interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad with Everton, Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt named as possible suitors after the latter of that trio reportedly made a £30m bid for his services during the final days of last summer’s transfer window. However, the report suggests there is ‘a feeling’ Newcastle could demand double Eintracht’s offer before considering any sale of the Sheffield United forward.

Villa previously explored signing Osula last summer but were effectively blocked from pushing ahead with a deal due to UEFA’s financial rules.
