Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules put Newcastle under pressure to sell academy graduate Anderson to Forest back in June in order to avoid a potential points deduction. It was a reluctant sale for the club and the player but one that saw Newcastle adhere to PSR and avoid punishment.
The £35million fee represents a club record sale though with Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos heading in the opposite direction for £20million, the true value of the deal is up for debate.

Newcastle knocked Forest out of the Carabao Cup on penalties back in August and visit the City Ground once again next month before the November international break.
Anderson has featured in every game for Nottingham Forest so far this season, grabbing one assist in a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The closest he has been to scoring a Premier League goal came for Newcastle at Forest back in 2023, but his header was controversially disallowed for offside.
But he has certainly impressed Forest fans since his arrival with the club’s official X account posting: “We need to talk about Elliot Anderson.”

A Forest fan wrote: “There’s a reason they christened him the Geordie Maradona. Absolute baller. Cannot wait to see him score his first Forest goal, so deserves it.”
Another added: “Massive potential to be a top top top player. Can see him making the breakthrough to full England level by the next World Cup easily.”
And one Forest fan highlighted Newcastle transfer target Anthony Elanga in his assessment.

Start Silva in Friday night and go with Anderson, Yates and Ward-Prowse in the middle (assuming MGW isn’t fit).” A Newcastle fan said: “Great to see him doing well, at Newcastle we got to see his potential but great to see him fulfilling it week in week out with Forest.”
Another stated: “Now yous see why we were devastated when he was sold.”
