A brilliant late free-kick from Jacob Murphy saw Newcastle United draw 1-1 in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.

Murphy – who was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday last season – played and trained his way into Bruce's plans in pre-season.

Injury-hit head coach Steve Bruce said: “I’m delighted with the resilience, especially considering the problems we’ve had. We needed to show that resilience – and stop conceding.

“I was delighted for Jacob, in particular. He’s worked his way into the team. He’s played well in the cups He’s trained well. His first challenge was to make sure he was in the 25. The big thing was could perform at this level. He was arguably our best player. He’s found it difficult. The big loan he had at Sheffield did him the world of good. I’m very, very pleased for him.”
