Northern League: Boldon CA up for the challenge as historic week comes to a close
Boldon CA will hope to boost their chances of securing a historic promotion into Northern League Division One this weekend.
Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence has backed his side to round off a historic week with a positive result at Northern League Division Two rivals Tow Law Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Villa outfit progressed into the FA Vase third round for only the second time in their history last weekend as they came through a penalty shoot-out to see off North West Counties League side FC St Helens. There was a quickfire return to action on Tuesday night as goals from Callum Larmouth, James Fairley and Kevin Humble ensured Boldon came from a goal down to boost their bid for a first ever promotion into step five with a 3-1 home win against struggling Durham United.

All focus is now on Saturday’s visit to fellow promotion contenders Tow Law - and Spence believes his players will be up for the challenge at Ironworks Road.
He told The Gazette: “We started slowly on Tuesday but I think the Vase game took a little bit out of us. Durham were always going to work hard and come at us and the early goal gave them something to build on. But we regrouped at half-time, we recovered and we brought fresh lads from the bench after Sunday and I think we are ready for Tow Law. When we face big teams, and Tow Law are a big team, it seems to bring the best out of the lads. They get right up for these games and I’ve got no doubt they will do that against this weekend.”
