Kevin Bolam’s side secured their place in Monday’s semi-final as two goals from the former Dunston UTS striker gave them a 2-0 win against Plymouth Parkway in front of a record crowd at the Energy Check Sports Ground.

After a tight and nervy start, Town edged in front midway through the first half when Scott produced a kept a cool head to round visitors goalkeeper Kyle Moore and tap his side ahead from six yards out.

And the 21-year-old doubled his tally and his side’s lead in first half stoppage-time when he got on the end of a stunning cross from Michael McKeown to tap home from close range.

The striker could and should have completed a memorable hat-trick in the second half as he was one of a number of Hornets players to waste golden opportunities to make their lead even more comfortable.

But it mattered little as Town confirmed their place in the last four and took themselves within 180 minutes of a first ever visit to the home of football.

After the game Scott told The Gazette: “We can’t think of Wembley, not yet anyway.

“It has been a great day for the club, but we just have to focus on the next game, and we can’t look to far ahead of ourselves.

“Forget about Wembley until we win the semi-final.

“Obviously you hear the fans singing about going to Wembley, so you are aware of it, it was hard not be aware of it given how big the crowd was.

“But when you are in the game as we were on Saturday, you just fully focus on the game and beating what is in front of you.

“We will have to do that again in the semi-final, no matter who we are drawn against.”

Hebburn will be ball number four in Monday’s draw and that will be broadcast live on TalkSport 2 at 1pm.
