From social activities and support sessions to arts and crafts, tea dancing, walking football and volunteering opportunities, there's plenty to get involved in.

The aim is to celebrate the important role older people play in our communities.

The first event is called Making Memories and is at St Matthew’s Church in Jarrow on Thursday, October 1, although the official launch is on Friday, October 2, 10am to 2pm at Cleadon Park.

Other venues across the week include Marsden Road Centre, South Shields FC, Sutton Hall on Prince Edward Road in South Shields, ACTS’ centre on Beach Road and Asda in both Boldon and South Shields.

There are various events and activities, with a Leeds coach trip on Thursday, October 8.
