South Tyneside pub to host charity night for Tourette syndrome
A South Shields pub is helping raise awareness of Tourette syndrome
A South Tyneside pub is helping to promote awareness of a much misunderstood condition.
From 7pm on Friday, September 18, The Beehive Inn on Mile End Road, South Shields is the venue for a charity race night in support of Tourette’s Action. A fun time is expected and all are welcome.
The charity raises awareness of Tourette syndrome (TS), a neurological condition which can lead to tics, involuntary and uncontrollable sounds and movements.
The biggest TS misconception is that everybody with the condition will swear or say socially inappropriate things. Only 10-30% of people with TS have this symptom.
Danielle Stephenson from The Beehive said: “Our main aim is to publicise Tourette’s and the damage that ignorance, misinformation and lack of education surrounding the illness can cause, and hopefully change society’s views on an illness that for sufferers might feel like a life sentence.
“The only way to do this is to raise much needed funds.”
