Lewis Miley official Newcastle United injury update as return timeframe revealed ahead of Everton
Matthias Jaissle has issued an encouraging injury update following Lewis Miley’s absence for Newcastle United at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Newcastle United are hoping Lewis Miley will be available again soon after the midfielder missed Sunday’s victory over Crystal Palace through injury.
The 20-year-old was absent from the squad for the 2-0 win at Selhurst Park because of a muscle problem, with Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle now targeting a swift return for the academy graduate.
Miley was one of four players unavailable for the trip to south London. Ewen Jaouen was sidelined by a hamstring injury, Tino Livramento is recovering from a knee problem, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo missed out through illness.

Jaouen and Livramento are expected to remain out for Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures, but there is greater optimism over Miley and Fernandez-Pardo returning in the near future.
The Magpies have already received a boost with Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey returning to the matchday squad against Palace. William Osula, Amar Dedic, Dan Burn and Fabian Schär also started after working their way back from injury issues.
Speaking after Sunday’s win, Jaissle welcomed the opportunity to get more players back involved, while stressing that those returning from lengthy absences would need time to regain full fitness.
“It was good, really important that we’re getting the lads back on track and we can give them game minutes,” he said.
“They will still need time for them to be 100% back as they’re out for weeks and months. We need also time to bring [Elanga and Ramsey] in from the start.”
Jaissle hopeful of quick Lewis Miley return
Miley had featured at right-back while Dedic and Livramento were unavailable, but competition for places has increased following Dedic’s return and with Joelinton also coming back into contention in midfield.
The Newcastle boss confirmed the nature of Miley’s problem after the midfielder was left out against Palace, while teasing a potentially quick return for the midfielder.
“Unfortunately, he was not able to be in the squad [at Crystal Palace] due to an issue with his glutes. But hopefully, we will bring him back as soon as possible.
“The medical department is doing a great job.”
Newcastle face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday night in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, before welcoming David Moyes’ side to St James’ Park for a Premier League meeting next Monday.
Jaissle’s side head into the cup tie in positive spirits after their win at Palace lifted them into the Premier League’s top half. Newcastle sit just two points outside the top five after eight matches.
The Magpies won 4-1 on their only previous visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but have lost their last two meetings with Everton at St James’ Park.
