South Tyneside Council dealing with ‘multiple damage reports’ following Storm Boelo
South Tyneside Council is dealing with the aftermath of Storm Boelo hitting the borough.
“Multiple storm damage reports” have been made across South Tyneside after Storm Boelo hit the borough at the weekend.
South Tyneside was hit with wind speeds of around 60mph on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, as the second named storm of the season arrived in the UK.
The borough was subject to a yellow weather warning from the Met Office due to Storm Boelo, which brought heavy rain alongside the high winds.

Storm Boelo clean up operation underway
In the aftermath of the storm, South Tyneside Council has started to deal with the clean up operation.
At the time of writing, the Gazette is aware of multiple reports of trees being blown over, as well as Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) crews being called out to The Word, in South Shields, over the course of the weekend.
South Tyneside Council has told residents that “the most urgent incidents” will be taking priority throughout the clean up operation and members of the public are urged to “avoid wooded areas” in the borough due to the risk of falling trees and branches.

‘Avoid wooded areas’
Speaking on Monday morning (October 26), a spokesperson for the local authority said: “Following Storm Boelo, we are dealing with multiple storm damage reports across the borough.
“The clear up operation is under way with the most urgent incidents taking priority. Non-urgent branch clear up will be completed over the next couple of weeks.
Residents are advised to be vigilant and cautious when visiting our greenspaces and avoid wooded areas as there could still be a chance of falling trees and branches.”
