Newcastle United drop future transfer hint as club set to appoint recruitment 'difference maker'
Newcastle United are planning on making further appointments behind the scenes at The KNOX.
Newcastle United are looking to appoint a new psychologist and goalkeeper scouting analyst as part of its ongoing first-team staff expansion.
It follows the recent search for a new performance scientist, with the successful candidate yet to be made public. The Magpies have experienced a high turnover of staff so far this year, from playing staff to coaches, performance and recruitment staff.
The departure of Eddie Howe as head coach and the appointment of Matthias Jaissle has been a big driver in the change of personnel behind the scenes at the club. The club has also seen head of recruitment Steve Nickson depart to join Wrexham and senior football executive Andy Howe leave his role.

In addition to the new coaching staff, the club also recently appointed Yann Le Meur as the new assistant performance director. Le Meur previously worked with Newcastle’s performance director James Bunce and summer signing Aladji Bamba at AS Monaco.
Now the club are looking to appoint a new psychologist to help with talent management and player transitions.
Explaining the role, the club said: “We are building an environment where talented players can thrive, develop and successfully navigate the critical transitions that shape elite careers. You will play a key role in supporting high-potential players through important stages of their development journey.”
The role is designed to give new players support during the most significant moments of their careers and contribute to the wider psychology and wellbeing projects at the club. It comes after a period which has seen Newcastle recruit several young players from abroad in what has been the first major transfer of their careers.
Newcastle United look to strengthen goalkeeper recruitment drive
Perhaps some insight into Newcastle’s future transfer plans is the added focus on goalkeeper scouting analysis and recruitment.
Newcastle signed Ewen Jaouen and Lukas Hornicek in the summer but were unable to secure an exit for Nick Pope, who is now set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Gazette understands Jaouen was signed on the back of a recommendation from Newcastle’s goalkeeper coaches.
The goalkeeper positional scouting analyst role will add greater depth to Newcastle’s recruitment strategy.
“As a Positional Analyst, you’ll deliver detailed video and live analysis on players in key positions across assigned markets,” the club explained. “Working closely with our Head of Scouting Analysis, data team and international scouts, you’ll build clear, objective evidence that supports recruitment strategy and future transfer planning.
“Your work will inform real decisions. Your detail will make a difference.”
