‘What he wants’ - Malick Thiaw backs Matthias Jaissle tactics at Newcastle United

The mood has lifted around St James’ Park after Newcastle United earned a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Malick Thiaw believes it will “get easier” for Newcastle United the longer Matthias Jaissle works at the club.

The German arrived at St James’ Park just three weeks before the Premier League season. A mixed start to the campaign saw the pressure crank up slightly on Jaissle following two post-international break defeats.

However, a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday got Newcastle back on track. The Magpies now sit eighth in the top flight, with the next league fixture a home clash against Everton.

‘It’s getting easier’ - Malick Thiaw

Speaking before Newcastle’s victory at Selhurst Park, Thiaw - who was dropped alongside Sven Botman and Fabian Schar at the weekend - backed Jaissle’s tactics. He told the BBC: "The longer you work with someone the easier it is. It's getting easier with time.

“You understand the person and the manager. Tactically, what he wants is quite clear, but you have to adapt 100 per cent.

“But we have just tried to have a good week and good training session, trying to focus on what we can do in the game. We will see at the end of Sunday (at Palace) but there is an advantage because one team can focus all week."

Malick Thiaw makes ‘long season’ comment

While possibly lost in translation, Thiaw strangely also said that Newcastle could be in for a “long” season. He added: "We have not had that much time because we have not had 10 games yet and, if you look at the games it will still be a long season.”
