Newcastle United approached over £15m deadline day deal - Matthias Jaissle makes his feelings clear

Newcastle United are set to keep hold of the experienced winger at the request of manager Matthias Jaissle.

Newcastle United have rejected a second bid of £15million from Nottingham Forest for Jacob Murphy.

The 31-year-old is in the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, but new boss Matthias Jaissle does not want to lose the experienced winger from his young squad.

Murphy is currently the longest-serving player at the club after joining from Norwich City for £12million in the summer of 2017. He has made 267 appearances in total.

The boyhood Newcastle fan was voted into the player leadership group under former head coach Eddie Howe last year and has worn the captain’s armband on a handful of occasions since then.

Murphy has been limited to substitute appearances in the Magpies’ opening two Premier League matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur but still has a big role to play in the eyes of Jaissle.

As per the Daily Mail, Forest had a £10million bid rejected over the weekend and have now upped their offer by £5million with the transfer deadline approaching. However, as it stands, Murphy will be staying put.

Joe Willock, whose contract also expires next summer, has attracted strong interest from Turkish side Besiktas but Jaissle wishes to retain the former Arsenal midfielder, who started the 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in the No.10 role.

Newcastle have completed the £51million signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, which has paved the way from Nick Woltemade to join Juventus on a season-long loan deal. There is no option or obligation to buy next summer.

Woltemade is expected to be the only senior player to depart, though could be joined by some of the under-21s players, including Sean Neave, who is in talks over a loan switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
