Serie A club director confirms interest in 'popular' Newcastle United transfer target
The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies look to add to their squad during the summer transfer window.
A reported Newcastle United transfer target has attracted interest from Serie A champions Inter - according to one key club official.
The Magpies are expected to oversee a busy summer transfer window as they look to move on from what has been an underwhelming season and a first move of the close season has moved a step closer over the last 48 hours after United agreed a deal worth around £24.2m for young French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. The Reims stopper is believed to be preparing to travel to Tyneside to undergo a medical over the coming days and will provide competition to become Eddie Howe’s number one when the new Premier League season gets underway in August.
Newcastle could look to bring in another goalkeeper if Nick Pope departs this summer and there have been reports suggesting the likes of Ipswich Town and Leeds United are keen on the England international. The Magpies are also believed to be looking to add a full-back, winger and a midfielder to their squad ahead of the new campaign - and there have also been suggestions a centre back could be on the agenda.
Reports in Italy have named Newcastle as a possible suitor for Udinese star Oumar Solet after he produced a number of impressive performances to help Kosta Runjaić’s side secure a tenth placed finish in Serie A last season. Since joining Udinese in January 2025, almost six months after leaving RB Salzburg, the former France Under-21 international has made over 50 appearances and he is now said to be attracting interest from clubs in Italian football’s top tier and across Europe, with Tutto Mercato Web reporting Newcastle were ‘monitoring’ his progress during the final weeks of last season.
Expanding on what could lie ahead for the defender, Udinese sporting director Gianluca Nani told Italian daily II Messaggero Veneto: “There have been no negotiations so far regarding Solet, who has a long contract with us. We know that Inter are interested, and if they want, they will contact us. However, Solet is also popular with many other Italian and foreign teams.”
