Will Osula, Bazoumana Toure, Joelinton: Newcastle United injury list & return dates
Will Osula, Joelinton, Tino Livramento: Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.
Will Osula is Newcastle United’s latest injury blow after the striker picked up a foot problem during the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Already without Tino Livramento, Joelinton and Dan Burn, Osula was forced to withdraw early in the second half having initially played on. The young Dane then missed the 3-2 Carabao Cup second round win over West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday and has no definitive return date.
Yoane Wissa is expected to lead the line against Tottenham Hotspur, with Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey vying to start at number 10. New £50million signing Nico Gonzalez could also make his debut after joining from Manchester City.
But for the players who won’t or might not be involved in North London, we take a look at their expected return dates:
Bazoumana Toure
The £42million summer signing scored on his debut against West Bromwich Albion in midweek but was replaced at half-time.
What’s Matthias Jaissle said?
“He was feeling a bit of pain, one of the first actions, but that should be fine for the weekend. Of course, we didn't want to take any risk, but it should be fine.”
Expected return date
Tottenham Hotspur (A), 29/08.
Tino Livramento
An injury-hit 2025/26 campaign for Livramento was compounded by his withdrawal from England’s World Cup squad. The 23-year-old suffered a calf injury in the week leading up to the tournament that ultimately required surgery.
What’s Matthias Jaissle said?
“Step by step. First of all, we're happy that he's back in training, now also fully integrated.
“He still follows some an individual programme, but sooner than later he's fully back in training and then we can talk about squad planning, when he will be able to be in a matchday squad, getting the first minutes.
“But again, step by step. He was long out and we want to take our time, learn out of the past also, giving him rather one week longer than shorter to have him then on a consistent basis.”
Expected return date
AFC Bournemouth (H) 05/09.
Joelinton
Joelinton featured in just two of the Magpies’ seven pre-season friendlies due to injury.
What’s Matthias Jaissle said?
“Yeah, he's for sure out for a couple of weeks, but I don't want to go into too much detail, as there will always be specialists involved.
“The medical department is aware of it, we have top staff when it comes to that, and I'm really confident that he will be back as soon as possible.”
Expected return date
Leeds United (A) 14/09.
Will Osula
Osula sustained a foot problem during the Premier League opening day draw against Liverpool. He played on initially, but was forced to withdraw early in the second half.
What’s Matthias Jaissle said?
“He's now permanently getting the best treatment. We have a fantastic medical department, but it's still too early to make a clear prognosis, a clear time frame when he's back, but he's working hard in the rehab like all the others.”
Expected return date
TBC
Dan Burn
Burn rolled his ankle in training in the build-up to the Premier League opener against Liverpool, and was spotted at the game on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
What’s Matthias Jaissle said?
Jaissle initially hoped Burn would return within a couple of weeks, however the defender isn’t expecting to be until after the upcoming international break.
Speaking earlier this week, Burn said: “It’s my not first injury and I’m sure it won’t be my last but hopefully I won’t be out for too long - I expect to be back after the international break.”
Expected return date
Coventry City (A), 12/10.
