Northern League: Boldon CA boss wants to build momentum after derby draw

Boldon CA are looking to boost their bid to avoid relegation from the Northern League this weekend.

Boldon CA joint-manager Keaton Trott has urged his players to use the momentum of Monday’s draw at Jarrow to preserve their Northern League status.

Kennie Malia’s side looked to be pushing their local rivals further towards relegation into the Wearside League as they came from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead into second-half injury-time at Perth Green. However, an error from Jarrow keeper Lewis Baker allowed Luke Grant to grab a last-ditch equaliser for Boldon and that has taken them out of the relegation zone with just three games remaining in the season.

A nerve-shredding final fortnight week kicks off with the first of two consecutive home games as Chester-le-Street Town visit The Villa on Saturday - and Trott is hoping to make the most of the positive reaction his players showed following last weekend’s heavy cup defeat at Thornaby.

He told The Gazette: “We have to build on it because every game is massive for us between now and the end of the season. We have to be at it in every game, we know where we are at and we know what we have to do. Every game is massive, it’s as simple as that and the players have to take confidence from the draw. It came after a heavy defeat on Saturday so it was a positive reaction and we have a lot of momentum going into Saturday’s game now.”

Boldon will assess the fitness of forward Jack Devlin after he was substituted during Monday’s draw at Perth Green.
