Northern League: Kennie Malia hails 'dominant' Jarrow after Durham United win

Jarrow continued to impress in Northern League Division Two with yet another win.

Kennie Malia reflected on a ‘really dominant performance’ as Jarrow’s red hot form in front of goal continued with a six-goal destruction of Northern League Division Two rivals Durham United.

After failing to find the scoresheet in their disappointing midweek draw with Newcastle University, Malia’s men rediscovered their scoring touch in spectacular fashion by plundering their way to six goals at Maiden Castle on Saturday afternoon.

Reserve team player Jak Edwards opened the scoring with just six minutes on the clock before the lead had been stretched to four by the time the half-time whistle had been blown as Aidan Maher, Stephen Siyanbola and Jack Armstrong all found the net.

Luke Hudson stretched the lead to five just three minutes after the restart before Siyanbola doubled his personal tally and rounded off the scoring with just under 20 minutes remaining. Malia praised his players for their impressive display at both ends of the pitch and picked out Edwards for the impact he had made at Northern League.

He told The Gazette: “It was a really dominant performance today and it’s great to see goals coming from all over now. That's 32 goals scored in 11 league games. We are really pleased that we kept a clean sheet as in games like that when you could easily switch off thinking the game is done and Kieran Hunter made sure of that with two very good saves. It was also brilliant to see Jak Edwards on the scoresheet as he is a player from our reserves.”
